Aoraki/Mt Cook National Park is the home of the country's highest mountain and a lot of glaciers, passes and big alpine valleys. It is a long way from Wellington, so trips here tend to be longer ones.
The club's reports here are mostly alpine: Alpine 1 is the most common grade. They include a week at Tasman Saddle, trips to Ball Pass, and climbs of Mt Footstool. Several reports date from the late 1970s and 1980s. November and December are the busiest months, in the early summer climbing season.
