The Whanganui region is made up of deep bush valleys, farmland and one of the country's great rivers, the Whanganui, which was given legal personhood as Te Awa Tupua in 2017. Much of the bush is in Whanganui National Park.
The club has paddled the river in canoes and kayaks and has tramped to Trains Hut, John Coull Hut and Pouri Hut on the Matemateaonga Track, and walked the Ātene Skyline Walk. Most of these trips are easy to medium.
