Trip Reports (June 1975: ski instruction and Smiths Creek family trip)

28–29 June 1975 · Ruapehu (ski instruction); Tararua (Kaitoke, Smiths Shelter)

Text taken from the club newsletter.

June 28-29: The first of the Ski Instruction weekends and all agreed it was a "Bonza".

Two perfect days coupled with good snow set the scene for the 27 learners and instructors to enjoy a really great start to the season.

The novices made excellent progress which was satisfying to them and rewarding to those giving instruction.

Why not join us on July 19-20?

June 29: Five family groups comprising 7 parents and 11 children ranging in age from 4 to 14, along with other club members braved the biting cold for the first Sunday trip for some time.

The intrepid leader, Kevin, caught up with his eager party about half way and the weather managed to turn on a welcome sunny spell for the hour and a half spent brewing and eating at Smiths Shelter.

Any fears that the children would have difficulty managing the long tramp were quite unfounded as parents in some cases were having difficulty keeping up with their eager offspring.

A day most enjoyed by all in spite of the cool temperature.
