RECENT TRIPS September turned out to be a really useless month as far as tramping went, The Egmont trip on 2/4 September enjoyed good “ weather and most got to the top, but the rest of the scheduled ~~ trips didn't fare so well due to cold, wet, windy, snowy conditions which prevaileéc,

The Club Ski Sports were cancelled because of the weather, The best place appeared to be the West Coast which was often fine but I didn't hear of anyone taking advantage of it. Incidentally if you do a trip anywhere, official or otherwise, let's hear about it. The W.A.M.C. Ski Sports were held on Saturday, 1 October at Mt. Ruapehu, The club entered two teams, Men and Womens and these ten members climbed up to Knoll Ridge to race. The mens team, comprising of Dennis Gazley, John Moynihan, Peter Clark, Dave Forbes, Ian McGregor and Steve Healey were successful in retaining the Mens' Cup. Unfortunately Steve missed out on the . fastest time by & HALLOW margin, to

Of the: two women who finished, Joy Clark was 6th Fastest and . Ann Goodwin 7th Fastest (a time of one second separate} them both), The other two racers, i.e. Frances Gazley and Jenny Jorgensen , were disqualified for missing gates, The Glub Ski: Sports were then held on the Sunday, 2 October in : —_ foggy, wet weather at the top of the Yankee Slalom, The " Fesults in these were as follows:

= ean aal . Senior Men: Steve Healey, Peter Clark, Marty Trueman Senior Women: Jenny Jorgenson, Joy Clark, Ann poss intermediate: Jon Spink , , ish Junior Women: Karen Brown.

ROUND-UP - On the mend - members will be pleased to know that Sue Higgins who unfortunately contacted TB earlier this year is progressing well and is now out of hospital and back home with Allen and Sarah, 4 As part of the normal follow-up programme the Health Department .._. wg@re interested in contacting all those with whom Sue had bean in close contact since her problem arose. However the strain of TB which Sue had, proved to be a relatively non=-contagious form which meang that the planned follow-up will not now be necessary. We wish Sue a continued ‘ steady recovery and hope that she'll soon be back to fult tramping , and yachting activities, The club président is also on the mend but he won't be seen in the hills for a while yet. Get well Soon anyway. Infrequent Visitor - a face not seen around club for some time
