Tremendous weather in the. Tararuas but only 22 on the bus took advantage of it. The Medium party of 10 led by Glynis Woodrow stayed Friday night at Kiriwhakapapa then during the three days had a leisurely trip over the Blue Range to Cow Creek and down the Waingawa River. The Fit party of 4 led by Dave Wills went to Blue Range Hut as did 4 transport onlys. On Saturdey, Dave's party did a trip over Waingawa Peak and Bannister to camp at Arete Tarn. They followed the Wdaingawa River down over the next two days.
The FE party, comprising Neil Woodrow, Leslie and Andy Haines, and Paul Richardson tramped to Cow Creek on the Friday night. Neil and Paul went up the Waingawa, Neil all the way to Girdlestone while Paul ended up on Tarn Ridge. On Saturday night Neil finally came to rest at North King, Paul at McGregor Biv (via Carkeek, Waiohine and McGregor Spur) while the Haines camped at the foot of Nichols Track (via Table Ridge, Girdlestone, Dorset Ridge). On Sunday night Neil had disappeared via Angle Knob, Atiwhakatu, Mountain House, Andy and Leslie at Hector Forks after floating down the Waiohine, and Paul also at Hector Forks via Shingle Slip Knob, Mid-Waiohine, Aokaporangi, Maungahuka, and Concertina Knob. On the Monday, Andy, Leslie and Paul floated, swam, and tramped downriver to Walls Whare. Neil did the same from Totara Flats. (All rather confusing???? ... Editor)
