An au revoir to the TO's at the turnoff to Mountain House and Evan Cunliffe and his band began sweating the Wakefield ales. The monotony was broken by an eye splitting "prang" before the mid= Atiwhakatu hut was reached for a few “z"s, Dave Peacock had a premonition and stayed in the pit while the remainder of the party climbed via Raingauge Spur into good Tararua gunge. Pike was the order so an early lunch followed at the Angle Knob Hut. The afternoon passed with copious amounts of coffee and snoozing to the accompaniment of Hughy's symphony.
