Sunday morning was cloudy and cool as we dropped down to Park Forks and started along the Waiohine. Allan had a sore foot which. rapidly aor worse and after a conference Claire and -Greg decided to go as ar as Mid-Waichine and walk him out up Isobel and down Holdsworth. The three of us who were continuing went on to Mid-Waiohine for lunch, by which time the weather was glorious, the water was lovely, and you. should have .seen -the trout! I - ; After that it was up Aokaporangi, a long ov ‘trudge but worth it when we got there, sunny with a cool. breeze to. keep us_ going, and .marvellous views. .It was a new experience for me to see my shadow on a low bit of cloud, with a rainbow coloured halo around it. We plodded on to Maungahuka Hut, and boy, was that ever.a sight for sore eyes (and feet:). , We sat up behind Maungahuka and ate our dinner (more salad) and watched the clouds bank up along the main range (below us), pour through, and dissolve in the: a@ifferent air temperature on the other side. It ‘looked Boo"! when the sun set over the lot. Monday dawned fine and sunny, without even a cooling breeze. Over the Tararwa Peaks and the ladder for yet another new. experience - not as horrific as it looked in the slides I'd seen -, and on to Kime for lunch. Down to the Otaki for a ‘much needed swim and drink (there had been no water at Fields) and’ back to civilisation. : On the trip: Brian Hunt (eteaeiee Lindsay: Cuthbertson, Annette Johnson, Claire Douglas, Greg Aimer, Allan Croft.
