-Priday night saw us wandering up to Cone in pleasant moonlit conditions. We were on the top by llpm, had a brew and hit the pit. Saturday morning arrived a little later than planned with the boys missing the alarm and being woken by the sunrise. The weather looked perfect with no clouds in sight. Breakfast was rusheé and we headed off towards Hector along Neill Ridge and over Winchcombe. Lunch was at Kime sitting in the sun beside _. the tarn which was still iced over. The intention for the afternoon was to get to Neill Forks but we mucked around in -the.mud and leatherwood too much and only made it to Maungahuka, This didn't upset anyone as the weather was still.ace and we were all a bit shagged anyway. We all enjoyed Tararua Peaks, .. fighting through the leatherwood and playing on the ladder. The sunset bettered the sunrise. The plan for Sunday morning was an earlier start. Fortunately due to unsynchronised watches, somebody heard the second alarm and a brew was put on. It was found a great view of the sunrise ‘and reflections of the tops in the tarn was available from the bog with the door open. (Beats callendars anyway). Off the tops and down to Concertina Knob where we decided to go down to Hector Forks and down the Waiohine rather than back over Cone. The gorge was cold with no monkies in sight. Entertainment was provided in the methods of sideling (including boot hanging and human chains) and the subsequent unintentional swims... We warmed up again on the way to Walls, met the medium party and crash ‘started a sick Civic. On the trip were: Martin Green, Michael Kennelly, Anthony _ ae eee Holland, Sean Wakely, Ian Hadfield.
