This is the story ‘of a trip which never happened. Instead of doing the scheduled High Ridge trip we decided to do a tops trip along.over McGregor and down off Baldy; Two hours Friday night saw us at Powell just ahead of the Hutt valleys. Saturday morning we left at 8.30 and headed up to the top of Holdsworth, we then had to cut steps down into the small saddle off Holdsworth because of the frozen snow, from there on travel was a lot faster. It took 3 hours to get to Jumbo Hut where we decided to pike because of the snow conditions. The hut was already full up with Victoria University Tramping Club but they made some room. On Sunday we left at il a.m. and dropped into -the icy Atiwhakatu except for Tim who want back over the top with Howard Bigas. We had a short stop at Atiwhakatu Hut then continued down the river out to the lodge having about two hours to spare. On the trip: Cave Wiils, Tim Brever, Pichard Thum, Martin Green.
