Friday night the keen and eager zapped off to Ketetahi tf. hut while those of us who “valued our ‘sleep crashed’ at the ae road end. : ‘, A pleasant stroll on Saturday took us to Ketetahi to meet the night trotters, and Richard Thum, who had come in , earlier in the week. It was sobering to. hear of the .<German tourist whose body had been choppered out earlier in the morning, and a stern reminder of how essential the night equipment and clothes are. Overcast skies anda I cool breeze kept us moving steadily towards Mangatepopo. The only time it snowed was (of course), during our lunch break. Time out was taken for a few, bum glissades on the way, before we got to: the hut for an “early dinner. We were rocked to sleep that night as strong winds buffeted the hut. Cool breezes and the prospect of carrying packs uphill sept Rg, half the trip straight back to the Chateau on ‘Sunday. The ct ‘other half of us trusted Bunks's navigating and took a i . ‘'short cut! to view Tama lakes. We did eventually get ‘there, and the lakes looked lovely in the sunshine. Cool winds (very!) kept us moving, and we stopped for lunch by Tamaki Falls, to lie in the sun, and watch the skiers mill disconsolately by. A little further and we were out in plenty of time. A very enjoyable weekend! Karen & Ian Bunckenburg;, Annette Johnson, Robert Whitla, Howard Biggs, Richard Thum, Brian Rowe, Graham, Mike Moran, Ross and Gary Woods.
