Ohau .2030 hrs: The boys bid a tearful fearwell to Kev-and with hearts heavy from his absence we set out for South Ohau. Three hours later we ° were in the pit with a hot brew and Gold.’.... the discussion. focused on the depth and temperature of the South Chau river. nr With Breakfast. and a brew at dawn we were away up Yeates track to Pukematawai. Wow! Amazing! say some just as the mist rolls in and oa: obliterates the Park Valley. Where to now? Down to the saddle and turn right. A short walk followed by a run, a few trips,.slides and falls through the leatherwood and we were all standing/sitting. in the. head of the Park, Out came the sun again which was appreciated by all, especially those who chose to swim or fall in the upper pool. Lunch was eaten just above Thompson creek in the sun and then we moved.on to Park Forks. We _ fitted beth flies into the. small campsite on the true right of the Park _ at the forks, had dinner, hit the pit, listened to the rain and wondered how much. the rivers would rise by morning, OE . 7 , Sunday morning meant a brew in the dark, breakfast and away early. The. - Park_and Waiohine rivers hadn't risen much but we decided a night and a: day of river travel was enough so we headed off up Dorset ridge. The air was noticeably cool nearing the bush edge and sure enough it started to*” snow. Storm gear was donned and we ambled along Dorset ridge’ in about ~.. 10cm of snow... Allowing time to walk the road if necessary we realised: lunch was going. to be short: (like none). So we set off on a knee shattaring race down Mitre to make up time for a brew. Arriving at Mitre Flats we met the "Fits" and some “Easies" with balloons (Brock's birthday) who: assured us the bus would come:up' the road so we could slow down. A long lunch and out to the Pines at a leisurely pace and home. On the trip were: a fan Hadfield, Owen Cox, Bruce Barnes, Michael Kennelly, Glen Turner, Paul Bolger, Matthew Comeskey, Peter Hodge and Robin Rutter. “
