PURITY - WAKELINS — RUAHTNE'S FIT TRTP (or F.E. perhaps?) Sept. 23-25 x : - Paul Richardson Saturday morning we climbed steeply through farmland and thence more gradually to Purity Hut. Out’ on the tops it was inte the mist. We reached Wooden Peg and the Tron Peg in short time, Over Maungaweka we decided to drop dom Trig Creek, The mist lifted and we could see whére we were going. Trig Creek is an casy route with no leatherwocd in the way. By latish lunch we were at the junction of Rangi Creek and the Kawhatea River, We climbed Rangi Saddle with no trouble and by 3 o'clock we were at Waikamaka Huot. With a little persuasion we decided to push on, We estimated that it, would take 3 hours to get tc Wakelins Hut. It took just that and it was almost dark when we arrived there, Travel dom the river is easy with just one. : deepish pool, oe /2
Ze Jim's face had to be seen to he believed when his attempt to keep kis shorts dry failed. Oh the agony! Wakelin's Hut had last been visited by a Tongue & Meat and Hut Valley parties Anzac Weekend; it cannot be a popular hut! Next day we climbed to the Mokai Plateau in fine weather. Down the gentle slopes we went to reach Colenso and lunch by a beautiful tarn, having first moved the cows away.
