EASY TRIP TO PAUA HUT — 24-26 May — Margaret McConnachie After picking up yours truly at Petone (having already unsuccessfully tried to get on’ an Eastbourne bus) we had an uneventful journey out to the Rimutaka Forest Park. We set up camp about 10 min. down the track and had a quick brew before hitting the pit. We made a leisurely start cn Saturday morning and made good time to Paua Hut for lunch. Having no key for the hut we scouted around and found a suitable site for our three flies - saving the Dog Kennel nearby for the Trip Leader (T.L.). 4 Our intrepid T.L. then suggested . a gentle 2 hour stroll for the afternoon and so off we went. What he DID NOT tell us was that we had to play mountain goats for 2 hours straight up the hill to the ridge then down the other side on a shingle slide. However, all was forgiven with a very welcome coffee at the end of our 4 hour epic. Upon our return our 2 chief cooks had our evening culinary delight under way and a great fire going to snuggle up to. Ian Bunckenburg Joined us for a great meal and a-very pleasant evening. Another latish start to the day on Sunday — but with T.L. providing, early morning brew (lovely:). We eventually headed off up Brown's Track and along Cattle Ridge . stopping I for lunch above the carpark > then dropping down to meet the bus in the afternoon. Joined today by Sean Wakely. ose A great trip thanks T.L.! even though yours truly managed to be trailing % hour behind everyone else most of the weekend.
