We spent Friday night under flies only to be awakened in the later hours when 20 women ¢ the "Chook Trip") arrived and set up camp.
Tony ied the way at 100mph and terrifed 90% of us into assuming that this pace was normal. After a stop people confided in each other and with a new leader the pace slowed. We toiled upward and onward and arrived at Jumbo still able to enjoy the view. ; i Lyn and Marshall did a great job with tea. But how can we forgive Marshall for putting the sour cream in the strogonoff too late, and calling us "wimps" when we refused it. Tim kept us amused-with his amazing joke telling, consequently some of us saw the sunrise. 7
On Sunday we all climbed to the top of Jumbo and Holdsworth with some of us led off the track by Cathy and Megan's talent for deviating. to the left. We morning tea'd at Fowel] Hut and took in the eun and views. Descent came next with the odd Rambo by Graham as he galloped off through the bueh. We found a grassy nook where we iunched and drank copious amounts of water. How came what we were ail waiting for, the final gentle cruise to Donnelly's Flate. Ve clambered into the truck, stopped at Marshall and Lyn's favourite apple stop, had ice-cream and goodies at Featherston, and arrived back in Wellington happy and tired. A great trip was had by all. On the trip were: lan and Marion Bunckenburg, Marshall Clark, Fay Condon, Cathy Goodin, Graeme Hawthorn, Andrew Maughan, Kevin Murphy, Marie O'Leary, Lyn Parry, Megan Rodwell, Hick Sawicki, Tony Stone, Duncan Thomas, Timothy Vard and Dave Vaters. ms
