DADS, LADS, MUMS & LASSES Aaron Taylor On Friday night everyone got off the bus about 8.45, picked up their packs, and then started on a 20 minute walk to Donnelly's Flats, which was where we had to sleep that night. When we got there it was great to find the flies already pitched. We were then plagued by billions of tiny non-biting, but very annoying little flies. Some people started a fire in this concrete thing, and everyone had a drink before: going to sleep. The next moming the weather was good, it hadn't rained that night and the sky was clear and the flies had gone. After breakfast we got going about 9am. With about 4 different groups going in separate directions, but all to meet up that night in a place just further than Totara Flats. We firstly went up a pleasant old dirt track for about a half hour, and then it joined onto a nice new gravel path which was almost flat in parts. This path lasted for ages as we made our way up and around Mt Holdsworth. At the top we all stopped for a rest and wait for the others before setting off down the other side. The track we were on now was dirt once again, and in some parts was really sketchy, and looked more like a creek. After falling-over about 5 times I finally made it down. Ai the bottorn was a large stream, the first water since we had set off that moming. We all stopped here for a drink and something to eat, and then. we went along a flat path for about half an hour until we came to a

bridge. We all stopped again. Twenty minutes after that we all stopped for lunch at a spot near the river. We arrived to where we were to sleep the night at a bout 2.30pm. ‘As soon as we got there we all went for a swim at this huge gnarly swimming hole just acroos from the campsite. That night a few of us went eeling which proved worthwhile as this little guy caught an eel way bigger than himself, and quite a few more were caught also. The next morning a few went for a swim before we set off alomgside the river. A few people were going to float down the river while the rest of us joined onto a track. We got to Walls Whare at about 2 pm with the weather still just as good as the previous morning. ‘On the trip were: Brian Hunt, Rob Stone, Michael Watts, David & Douglas Ryrie, Murray, Nicole & Sonja Brown, Berin Thomas, Stephanie, John, Jack, Anna & Evan Coote, Warwick & Brendan Frater, Rowan & Sam Peters, Daniel Foley, Damian & Aaron Taylor, Craig Ashworth, Michael Yarrel, Barrie & Todd Noyce, and Paul Mason.
