27 - 29 March by Anna Coote (9) On Friday at 6.30 pm Dad took me. and my mum to the Wellington Railway Station. There we ‘waited. for the Wellington Tramping and Mountaineering Club bus. It arrived at 7 pm. We piled in and I got. a front seat. So did my mum. There were twenty people. going on the tramp. Brian Hunt was the leader. It took 5 hours to get to Walls Whare. We slept in flies. Brian made a brew before we went to sleep. When Mum and I came to the fly there was: a possum on the tree right . next to our fly. We hissed at it and it ran away. We left next morning at 8.30 am. We stopped for lunch at Makaka Creek at the top of Cone Saddle. When we were going up Cone Saddle Mum said that I could carry my own sleeping bag next time as she was puffing and I wasn’t. For lunch I had. sandwiches, scroggin and a fruit split. We set off again. We got to our camping ground which was just down from Cone Hut. Our camping spot was nice but when we got there it was windy and cold. That night we had bacon stew for tea. It was cold and I had to go right down in my sleeping bag. In the morning we left for Kaitoke. We had morning tea just down from Tutawai Hut. We had two river crossings. It was cool fun and I. had to hold on to Brians pack strap. We stopped for lunch about half an hour before Smiths Creek. Brians hot refresh was yummy. Dad, Jack and Evan met us at Smiths Creek so we went back in our car. I had a really radical trip.
