8 - 10 JULY 1994
Here's a tale about Peggy and Dan And the Holdsworth to Kaitoke trip they ran. The trip was made even more awesome By Jez and Ang, who completed the foursome. We farewelled Kara's group in the car park And headed through the gates in the dark Up the Gentle Annie to Mountain House (Thankfully no sign of the rumoured rat or mouse!)
At first light we were rearing to go And what do you know - it began to snow! Along Totara Creek to Totara Flats Hut Where we stopped for a brew and a Ginger Nut.
The rain disappeared and sun filled the sky As we completed the trip to Tutuwai. is A well-kept two ticket hut with a view Where we watched the sunset and enjoyed another brew.
The Tutuwai Hut warden turned out to be The brother-in-law of our club's Harry He delighted us with stories of Tararua trips but no Harry Smith tales could be beckoned from his lips!
On Sunday morn’ we had time to relax Before cleaning up and repacking our packs. We set off looking such trendy sorts All decked out in our green fluoro shorts.
Daniel tried to lead us across Smith's Creek But the water was cold enough to make you shriek. There was a mutiny as we returned to the track Relieved to still have dry boots and Macpac.
Lunch by the river refilled our bellies For the final leg to Kaitoke valley. There endeth the tale of Peggy and Dan and the Tararua tramping trip they ran.
