_ Ai ceting time was 10:30am so I -V Bcould afford a sleep-in. When I finally faced the day it looked pretty good; in fact itlooked like a good kite flying day, so that was the first thing that went into my day pack. Living near the meeting point meant I. didn’t have to rush to get there, but still ended up by being late. That didn’t turn out to be a problem as our trusty trip leader was a little bit late as well. Once we had ourselves sorted out we straggled off to Khandallah Park. We regrouped at the entrance to the
By Sue Walsh park then meandered up the track to the lookout platform at the top. We had great views of the Wellington region and there were a few oohs and ahhs. it was quite exposed with a biting wind so the bulk of the people headed off_down_the_other side to find some shelter.
Meanwhile, a few intrepid souls decided to stay and watch the kite flying exhibition. I forgot to warm them that I was still a leamer kite flier - Allan “quickly found that out after I divebombed him by accident. After that attempt, a few other hardy souls tried out their flying skills until one managed to land the kite in the middle of the gorse! We decided to call it quits after that and had an early lunch.
After_lunch_we meandered_back— down to Khandallah Park via an alternate route. At the bottom we confirmed our next rendezvous point - Flanagans! A couple of people had. other things organised so they disappeared, but the rest of us eventually gathered there for a quiet drink to round off a pleasant day.
