came an oasis of warmth and calm as the wind gusts attempted to topple the trampers. At the hut Struan and Roger had the gas heater cranked up and offered us a delicious hot lemon drink. We had lunch and ventured out to see the views — but didn’t _get too close to either edge — and set off back down to Triplex Hut. A fabulous dinner of chicken, veges and pasta in a rather splendid satay sauce satisfied our hunger after the day's exertions. Pat Flanagan The next day we stopped briefly at Cow Creek Hut (I knew we were there because the name was inscribed on the loo seat!) and then a we had a fun cableway crossing for the Indiana Jones amongst us. The long haul up a steep spur to the Blue Range ridge was certainly tight on the quadriceps muscles, but we made it! The downhill bit was not too clever either but after all, it was the homeward stretch. It would have been nice to dabble our toes in the stream at the Kiriwhakapapa roadend but the transport was waiting, so with a toss of the muddy boots into the trailer we were off and away home. cd
Megan Jones right hand bunk room was interrupted by the three boisterous boys at 7am. Unfortunately, the wind and rain had necessitated the sleep-in. After breakfast, the group split into two. One group headed off to Waipawa Hut for junch and a walk along the river. The other group “had an informal bushcraft session with Sue and Brian; the low cloud making map reading even more difficult for first-time map readers. This was followed by a pleasant stroll around the loop track. The sun shone as we met up with the other groups, loaded up the bus, minivan and car and headed home. cA
