2nd.4th September 2005 We drove up to Taranaki on Friday night and walked up the track of steps from Dawson Falls to the Egmnot Alpine Club Kapuni Lodge. On Saturday we split into 3 groups — Sharron, David and Alison went up the South Face, Fraser, Rowan, Paul and John went up the East Ridge, Debbie and Craig had the morning at the hut and walked up the Syme Hut after lunch. It was a beautiful day and snow conditions were good. Those on the South Face enjoyed the walk up into the crater ke and on to the summit. (David and Sharron walking up Mt Taranaki from the South) The East Ridge group, having pitched one section onto the ridge, came up over Shark’s Tooth and met the others down into the crater. David and Alison did a short ice climb on Shark's Tooth and then everyone descended down the South Face to Fanthom’s Peak and back to Kapuni Lodge for kumera curry. On Sunday Debbie and Craig walked some way back up the mountain, Paul and Alison walked out via Lake Dive and everyone else had drank many cups of tea in the lodge before walking down to Dawson Falls again. Avery, very good weekend.
