There were 13 punters on my Tora trip on the South Wairarapa Coast. Four of us went for an awesome bike ride on Saturday, south along the coast to Ngapotiki Lodge/Hut and then took the inland route back to Tora. It was freezing - my hands were red and swollen by the time we got back to the cossie club house. The other 10 punters went for a walk along the beach on Saturday. Andrew Mann cooked up a storm (entrees, roast chicken & potatoes & salad, & apple crumble) on Saturday night and we settled down to waich the rugby.
Sunday we just mulled around and left about 1 p.m. - stopping at Martinborough for a sit down latte on the way home. A great social weekend.
There is meant to be a book on interesting geological sites but the other Simon Ward could not locate itin time. There are a few ship wrecks to look at along the way. And just before you ford the river to get into Ngapotiki Station there is a massive seal colony. The cossie club details in case people want to do a trip there in the future are "Upper Hutt Cossie Club - ph. 529 0009, www.cossieclubs.org.nz". It only cost $10 pppn which is pretty cheap. You are meant to be a member to book but somehow I got around that a he = ef : \ Franz and Andrew inside the Lodge (Photo: Tan Harrison)
