Solstice June 15 - 17 by Andrew Trembath

It was that time of the year again the winter solstice. It was decided after a lot of talking to make it a hero theme. There was a lot of effort and thought that went into the costumes people wore.

Thanks to Lord Nelson who drove the bus up to the lodge, and the running around over the weekend. The forward guard arrived at the lodge to get the food up to the lodge and get it warmed up for the rest of the punters to arrive later on Friday night.

After a great night sleep most of the people were up early and after a nice breakfast (bacon and eggs) people decided on what trip they were going to do for the day. It was a nice fine day apart from the wind but it did not stop a group heading up to the top (don't ask Harry the pirate about his climbing boots), and the rest headed down the mountain for a walk then a swim at the hot pools. After they left the lodge it was time to get it ready for the party. Sue got busy in the kitchen and did a lot of baking which went down a treat, when the main group got back from the hot pools. And Bronwyn and myself got the decorations out and sorted and put up with the help of the pirate (Harry Smith). Once the decorations were up and dinner was all prepared it was time to start partying and get into the groove of the night and time to get into the costumes. There was guessing who you were and most of us guessed right who they came as, apart from a few, I came as an unsung hero (a parent). After a great dinner it was party time to the wee hours of the morning. We were going to have a couple of fire dancers to perform for us at a great expense to the club but the wind was too strong, So maybe next year Gail and Bronwyn. So they just dance the night away instead. It was not an early start for most of the punters on Sunday (one did not get up until midday) but once they were up and fed they were off for another walk. Then it was back to the lodge for lunch and a clean up and then Lord Nelson got them back on to the bus and back home.

Some of the heroes that were there: Lord Nelson, Zorro, the pirate, Jean Batten, super girl, Barry Crump. It was a great time as normal so don’t miss out on the next Solstice. Thanks to the other trip leaders Sue and Bronwyn.
