Rimutaka_Kailway_: New Zealand Day wes appropriately marked by a trip over the route of the historic Rimutaka Railway. After being forced to deteur by an uncooperative farmer at the Kaiteke end, a full bus load of Tongue and Meats and visitors began the trip by bush bashing through a short thicket and literally droping about twelve feet on to the route. A very gradual and open track, marked at odd intervals with half buried iron. ssikes, allowed for an easy tramp and animated conversation. . [The troops were a little disappointed that no remains existed of the old Summit or Cross Creek settlements (apart from a fine upstanding example of two urinals) though this was tempered by impressions of the tunnels, gale force winds at Siberia (a gulley, where a train was ence blown over) the discovery of ripe blackberries en route and ettempts to bring an old Fell engine located in the Featherston elayground back into service. Altogether a populer ore day trip. Incidentally I hope the practice of fast types recing ahead and not bothering to get a brew going at the lunch stoop is not a tyoical trend. New members take note: , Harder trips and the necessity to carry bigger packs will of course soor see the demise of the trend to carry bowler hats, umbrellas, chair and table sets, and silver teapots and china cups for the oarteking of lunch breaks. : WARREN THORBURN.
