After the usual long haul up from the Forks, midnight on Friday saw 28 Tongue & Meats installed at Fields with a vast assemblage of odd gear and mysterious packages. An early start on Saturday, and we climbed thru the mist, wind and rain to Vosseler, Everyone crammed into the hut where we had a team talk and after 2 period of gentle persuasion we decided to continue, We got into the food and donned storm gear, no-one got into their outfits. The only views we got were of other peoples parkas', Walking, with the wind trying to blow you off your feet, proved an exhilarating struggle. Alpha Hut was a welcome sight. We had lunch there and decided to stay the night (during a particularly heavy shower). We soon had a fire roaring and a choice of curry and sweet stew simmering, then passed the time in cheerful banter. Sunday, wouldn't you know it, dawned perfectly fine, So it was on with the outfits, This produced a wierd array of characters, tota of pretty young ladies, a blacksmith, a golfie, a Chicago Gangster, a German helmet, Sorilla masks, dressing gowns strange hats and even a kite, While near Omega severalwell established members of the club (names withheld to avoid embarrassment) found they had left parkas and leggings at Alpha. They caught up with us later, We went out via the Tavherenikau and shocked several parties on the way. The Tararuas will never be the same. We finally made it to the bus after a zanny and enjoyable tramp. Prizes were awarded to: Graham Dommett (Chicago Gangster) - Best outfit and Jack McConchie {kite - flight unsuccessful) ~ Best Gimmick Well, I'm going on the next one - why don't you;
Graham Dommett
