Christmas trips: The club had mahy members in the hills over the holiday period. I hope wa get all these super trips written up for the super-duper journal that wo're going to have this yaar. Here's a brief summary, It doesn't cover all the trips, but these were the biggest. Arthurs Pass and Westland. Bruce Taylor led a party of 7 from Lewis Pass Road up the Hope River, Kiwi Saddle, Lake Sumner, Hurunui River to Harper Pass, Taramakau, Otehake, Tarn Gol, Walker Pass and down the Hawlon River. & days good weather, one rainy day. B,Taylor (L) D.McPhail, B,Leo, M,Brown, J,Fox, P.Haigh, and D,Hoyman, A party of 7 want up the Waimak, over the Harman Pass, Taipo, Arahura, Browning Pass to the Wilberforce, then up Gifford Stream, over Farquahar Saddle to Kokatahi, Hence to the Toaroha via Zit Saddle, Toaroha Saddle to the Mungo and Hoki Rivers. I heard the Hoki track was pretty tough, and rough, About 15 days, 3 fine the others mediocre. I Bunckenberg (L), P,Hughes, A, Bell, T,Halliburton, G,Halliburton, R,Thum, B,Murdock. South Westland, Party of 8 visited the Waitaha headwaters, Reid Creek branch over to County Glacier. Thon Upper Wanganui River and down tp Lambert confluence and Lord River via Hlue Lookout. (The easiest way is Vane Stream to Upper Lord direct}. The party missed the Garden of Allah/Eden and crossed to Adams Flat via unnamed col and 'Aciphylla Creek', Down the Adams { new track) and Wanganui Rivers te the road 16 days. B,Hunt (L), G.Hancox, B.Soclomon, N,Whiteside, B,Charles, G,Xennedy, P, Goodwin, J, Bryant. Party of 8 up Otoko Valley, lower Otoko Pass to Marks Flat, then Landsborsugh Valley to Haast Pass Road, A visit to the Wills next with some out via Bealey Range, others back down the Wills, 16 days. A.Parish (L), M.Hollis, H,Middlston, W.Thorburn, I,McLean, Kathy Hindmarsh, C,Brownie, M, Pickering, Aspiring Area, ‘Party of 4 up Newland tributary of Wilkin River, Newland Pass then Main Divide te Mercury Peak, Drake Valley, Waiatoto Valley as far as Bonar Flats, Haast Range traverse to Mt Aspiring. Then ont over Shipowner Ridge to Watipara Saddle, Arawata “Saddle to Matukituki, 14 days. P,Richardson (L), P.Aubrey, P,Delisle, T,Bisscll. Olivines. “Party of 3 up the Reckburn and Olivine Rivers, Barrier, Red Hills, Trinity Strean, ‘Trinity Pass to Trinity Col, Pass Stream, Williamson River, drawata River and . Saddle, Matukituki. J,McGonchis (L), T.Craig, C.Garton, Party of 5 traversed the Otivine Range from Jackson River to Qlivine Iee Plateau an and traverse of Destiny Peak to Joe River. Then up Victor Ck to Marion Plateau, Boys Col, Dart, Cascade Saddle to Matukituki Valley. 12 days - no rest days, P,Richardson (L), T.Gazley, P.Aubrey, ¥.Bissell, M.Fisher. A very strenuous trip - indeed, Many paeple thought we'd be ultra fit after this trip, but I $hink the reverse was true. Dave Dean led a trip to the Tararuas for about a week, There were 7 on this trip.
