In November Paul Aubrey and Jack McConchie tried out their survival instincts in the Go@iey region, They headed up the Whataroa, Butler, and Mawson Glacier to... climb Mounts Cumine, White Pyramid, Wolseley and Walton above the. Neish Plateau. Once over Stewart Saddie and into the Bettison Stream, Huey, thumbed his nose .and they remained trapped in their tent for four days -on half rations.. - They could not find their airdzop in “Prospectors Creek, nor a route to the Havelock in bad weather, so they -Jretreated to the West Coast, In short, 10 days “tramping on 7 days food! 7 m In December, Paul Aubrey and Tony Smith climbed Mount @Haidinger (10,059 feet) from Pioneer Hut above the Fox Neve before spending five days in the sack because of bad weather. The two then crossed Govenor Col and in terrible conditions were forced to abseil onto the Freshfield Glacier before climbing up to the Plateau Hut. Following a quick trip out for food, they attempted Cook via the Linda with Tim Stern, Terry Mumme, Martin Potter and Paul Bruce. Bad conditions forced a retreat and while Tony, Terry and Paul left via the Tasman, Paul, Martin and Tim climbed over the Divide to Pioneer in moderate conditions, More bad weather follcwed and: the group finally cut their losses and ieft via the: Fox in rain and knee deep snow.

vee Later, Paul Richardson and Paul Aubrey tramped up the Hopkins ‘and in five fine. days they climbed Mounts Huxley, Strauchon, and Ward before crossing Tragedy Col into the Dobson. They were then blown with the bolders - over Jamieson Saddle to the Hermitage. Paul Rubrey hes again left for the South: Island and I the Darrans before venturing to Australia for more rock climbing later this year.
