A bus ride into Otaki Forks usually means a long road walk, but not for those lucky enough to get a ride on the back of a truck. All stayed at Fields.except for three who urged on by a "superior being" went to Kime. Saturday dawned with virtually no clouds in the sky. After a brew stop” at Kime 'Hector' was ascended in very warm conditions. After Hector we stopped and sat for half an hour working out which peaks were which further up the Tararuas. An early lunch was had at Winchcombe Biv. Reaching Cone soon after 3pm meant a long sunbathing stop before dinner. Indeed I heard some complaints of sunburn that night. Sunday dawned grey and menacing and after a quick breakfast we were on. our way. Some stopped for a swim in the Tauherenikau before lunch.
