I think most people would have preferred to forget Priday night. For most people it started off with waiting 2 hours in the cold at Wellington Railway Station. For me, it was 2 hours waiting inside a car at Percy's Reserve - I must be mad. Anyway once the bus company had been reminded of our. booking it was off to Wall's Whare about 9pm. Temperatures were cold as we stepped off the bus but things soon warmed up as we did our road walk. As the leader was * not opposed to huts we soon settled in on our bunks. We were all dying to go to sleep, however that was not possible as Megan decided to give us a bit of late night entertainn, ment (imagine what you wish). On Saturday we woke up to high winds but nothing could put. “us lot off. We were aut of the hut at 9am and proceeded Sas along the road to go over the swing bridge. Here our trusty leader lost her lst point. She walked straight past the sign. Never mind, anyone could make a simple mistake like that, couldn't they? a e climb up to Reeves was fairly slow and while we were ‘Waiting for the others to catch up, Sharon wasted no time _in finding a tall dark, handsome and compassionate substitute for Bruce... would you believe a 'tree’'! . Anyway. enough smut for: now. We continued up toward Reeves _ and our trusty leader made'a few points by stumbling across the occasional marker, or two. We eventually found a lovely tarn for lunch (all of about 1 inch in diameter) just before the top of Reeves. After about 25 minutes it I was off again to battle the elements on top of Reeves. The strong wind along with the light rain made crossing the top rather quick. \ - Arriving at Tutuwai Hut shortly after three we were shocked V, to find the Fit Trip sitting in the Hut around a fire. Various explanations were -offered, the best being Alpha Hut was packed to the ceiling! 22/2

The trip leader-was a little more subdued that evening so it was an early night for all, except those who had their dirty little books (I won't mention any names but the defendant has a ginger beard). We were off at 9.15 on Sunday after an ‘egg on toast breakfast' for all those who chose to partake. It was off down the Tauherenikau. The sun came out at times and we made relatively quick progress, Things were a bit cool.for awhile, as those with short legs found out: Under extreme duress, Sharon falsely admitted to getting her shorts wet and the 2 M's of, the party threatened to- throw “her in: if Bhey.. were not wet when we got to Smith, Creek. ~~ aime: us We arrived at smith ‘Creek about 12° and. ‘gat! Sosa in eager anticipation of 2 hours ih the sun. After 10 minutes the big black clouds appeared so it was off:to Kaitoke Shelter two hours early where Sharon and I played a prolonged game of ‘let's aggravate the ‘book-worms',... oh what fun! The bus was up, to its usual. ‘Standard of ‘promptness and arrived half an hour late. 07.5 I'd just like to add that IL think Megan Conte sit uet sbouc even as far as points for leadership standards:go, but as far as good company goes, I think everyone would . agree you. couldn't. get a better leader. Thank you fora great trip Megan. a i ' —
