Friday’ night ‘and a'ferry trip that reminded me of ene old wind powered sailing ships tossing on stormy seas: To most other people it meant disgruntled stomachs and ‘heave ho' took on a new meaning. Saturday began at 6. 30am so we walked in our sleep. We got dropped off at the end of the pine forest and stopped for breakfast. It was then we Giscovered one of our lads had smuggled in. some BRUTE 33 deodorant. Did he want an,advantage.or had he been watching too much television. Did he too envisage himself swinging from tree to tree? ‘Throughout: the trip the words 'where would I be without BRUTE 33?' were echoed repeated—_ in moments of danger and peril. 5. We trudged on up the hill for about an hour with a few atops at waterfalls, icicles’, and lake views for our contribution ‘to tourist photo- bs graphic sessions, followed by a few Svope for rests. We aren't as youn ag we'd like to be! wei BS i On our way down to Lake Chalice it began. showing and continued thrady= a out the day providing us City Slickers with our first snow, which was = > all the more captivating in the bush setting with snow right down to the » lake. It even ‘snowed inside the shower but that's another story. . Some of the crew went for a wander around the lake while three of us remained under the pretence of keeping the fire going. - We heated the .. stove to enable the 'BRUTE' to take a hot shower during which the. temperature plummeted somewhat when a billy full of snow was thrown over the top. The same procedure was repeated for the next person. who had I a shower. At this stage I decided I was clean enough! as The girls decided to build a snow man as there were no real I men ‘pound. Real men don't eat quiche. ‘The only point of consternation was that. the snowman was wearing part of our next night's tea for. his nose. The next day dawned fine and it. was up early (early Griffo time is 9.30am — anything earlier is insanity). We were hoping to make the I. lower Goulter Hut for the night but opted for a nice spot below Nerds ~ Nob which is as yet unmarked on your average map. Such-an awe .inspiring peak deserved a name and Nerds Nob was decided on-as. an appropriate title so: Nerds Nob it is. «Situated about fifteen minutes past the mid. Goulter Hut beside the river,it was a beaut campsite. My only complaint was that the trees were too far away: The campfire must have been good because it was noticed two people remained for a pleasant 'tete a tete' tong after Sreene else had retired. \ : I was found to be in possession of two more rocks 'a da pack* aringine: 2/4

Another cave another way, and we opted for river travel on the homeward stretch. Any leanings toward further rocks in my pack were stifled with threats and blackmail, so I carried a considerably lighter pack and deem it a habit I would ‘Like ‘to get used to.
