MUKAMUKA - MUKAMUKAITI - 16-18 October - _ Geoff Meland. On a clear starlit Friday evening a party of ten, led by out fearless leader Anita Catchpole, headed for the Orongorongos. After strolling in along the Five Mile and a little confusion on where we were to : camp, we finally settled down at Big Bend. In the morning I. discovered to my horror rats had climbed into my pack and devoured my breakfast. Luckily my main grub was properly sealed, The day was going to be a cracker, not a cloud in the sky. Everybody ar was nareingto go; that is,until Anita showed us where we were going “~~ we soon found out this was amediumtrip in disguise. .., ; = The grunt up Mt. Mathews to the South Saddle was worth it - the views were spectacular. After a break we took off down the saddle towards” the sea. On the way down a few of us had some fun running down scree Slopes. We stopped for lunch at a beautiful spot by MukaMuka Stream.: :: While following the stream we spotted goats lcoking down on us from high above. Hit the coast road 4na@sidled around to Mukamukaiti stream and up to our campsite. After a delicious meal we talked around the — campfire.
