The easy trip led by Murray Worsop combined with ‘Marion Griffiths’ Mediums, for a pleasant stroll through the’ Tongariro National Park ~~ The Chateau to Turoa via Rangipo Hut. Ruapehu was obscured by mist. and cloud for Most of the weekend but down below it was generally’ fine . and there’ were good views of Ngauruhse on Saturday. Ore of the highlights of the trip was the campsite on the last night - “nestled under Ruapehu beside the —(?) River. Dead Pinus contorta:: fueled a massive bonfire which a heavy shower of rain failed to douse. The dawn presented a'moment Of rare beauty - the snow covered slopes of Ruapehu loomed above us, bathed in the pink light of the early morning sun. ee The weather foiled the Fit trip's attempt at climbing three peaks, Some at least made it to the top of Ruapehu and camped within 20 métres of the snowcavers without knowing it until the next morning. ice eet
